This Week's Did You Know

DYK

-that The Revolting Blog was originally named "The Blog". That's why the address is jv-theblog.blogspot.com instead of revoltingblog.com or something more clever. I emailed some of my friends to tell them I was starting a blog and Brian Bullock emailed me back 2 simple words, Revolting Blog. Being the Billy Madison fan that I am I decided right then to change the name. That's the blog history lesson for today. Naming the blog has to be one of the life highlights for the man known to some as Bob Gas.

-that I never actually won the UK season ticket lottery. Maddie did. Blake and I went to Big Blue Madness one year (tickets courtesy of Brittany Sharp, thanks) and talked about sending in entries for the lottery starting the next season and if one of us won we would go in together on the tickets. I had entered before, but didn't that season. What I didn't know was that my dad had entered pretty much everybody in our family that season. They had a late drawing after some people didn't renew their tickets and Maddie's name was drawn. The rest is history. My dad also won that year with the original drawings in September. Maddie won our tickets about 10 days before the first game. I won't tell you which family member won for my dad's tickets. If he wants to give up that information, you can ask him yourself. The tickets are now in my name since the winner was my minor child. Sometimes it's good to be old I guess.

-that I was once a huge wrestling fan. Brian Bullock, Tom Vinson, and I were the most die hard of the bunch, but all of my friends liked it. I don't mean when we were young kids either. We loved it well into our 20's. Tom still watches it every week to this day. I wish I could, but with work and kids it's hard. Plus, you really need to be able to keep up with the storylines. I've told you all of that to tell you this. I was pleasantly surprised a couple of weeks ago when I called Brian and his wife answered and hollered, "Brian, Dominguez is on the phone". You see we all had our own "gimmicks" back in the day. We decided to come up with "wrestling names" for each other. Tom was "Asshole Austin Page". Brian was originally "Barley Hanson", and later became "Bob Gas". He also had a short lived stint as "Black Bob". It's hard for me to even remember to refer to him as Brian because Tom and I only call him Bob. Our love for the wrestling gimmick names inspired us to give names to others, sometimes without their knowledge. Jason Courtney became "JC Ice". John Lovell became "Dude Lovell". Patrick Critchelow became "The SOB". Nace Creager became "Dirty Nace". Scott Boggess became "The Hound". Brad Divine was "Brother Divine", and went with the preacher gimmick. Matt Wright was known simply as "Snake". Various young ladies were known as "Luger". A couple of female friends of ours were intrigued by our naming abilities and requested names as well. I will never see Laurie (Bullock) Newman and call her by her real name again. She is "Puke" to me. Lindsay Gibson will always be "Pig Vomit". Eric Stovall was affectionately referred to as "The Load". If we had really been on our game we would have called Clay Vincent "Beefcake". Neville Ellison was "Sack". Who could ever forget Brian "Heart Attack" Hart? Dr. Mike Campbell was "Buzzsaw". He also wrote the legendary songs "Leg Humpin Time" and "Wakin Up At The Crack Of Dawn", songs he WOULD NOT want his patients to hear. Clay's cousins Josh and Jeremiah Vincent were the feared tag team "Pluck" and "Bang". Will McDonald was "The Thrill". Chris Knight was "The Knightmare". I was "Billionaire Dominguez", the wealthy manager for Bob Gas and the Asshole, which brings me back to the beginning of this rant. After all these years, I'm still the Billionaire to Bob, and he has me listed that way in his phone. The best part of the story was that Brian couldn't tell what Crystal was yelling to him and his step-daughter screamed out in the background, "it's Gomez, he's on the phone for you". Hey, she might have messed up the last name but it made my day that I'm known as "Billionaire Dominguez (or Gomez)" at the Bullock house. Nowhere in this post have I made anything close to a rational comment. You're all dumber for having read it. I will be awarded no points, and may God have mercy on my soul.

-that Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy is a man. He's 40. Type in Mike Gundy on Youtube for the video explanation. It's from last season, but it's classic. Short version for the girls who read the blog. The coach got mad when somebody wrote something in the paper derogatory about one of his players. He screamed and yelled and really looked silly at a press conference and told the media to quit writing bad things about good kids (paraphrasing there, but that's the quick version). That's when he told them to write about him. He's a man. He's 40.

-that San Diego Charger star Shawn Merriman was arrested for allegedly choking reality TV star Tila Tequila. Am I the only one that thinks he should have been arrested because he didn't stop? Tila Tequila's got to go.

-that virgin or not, I'm a big Tim Tebow fan. I've tried to hate the guy, but I just can't. He's probably the best college football player that I've watched since I really cared about the game. I'm not saying the best ever. I haven't watched college football long enough to go there, but he's a winner. Plain and simple. I wish Kentucky football and basketball teams were full of players with Tebow's heart and toughness, nevermind the skill. Writing this makes me think of some Kentucky basketball players that I have loved over the years who may not have been the most talented, but you had to love them because they were tough. Of course the first one to come to mind would be Jamaal "What Is He Doing To Wojo" Magloire. You didn't wanna mess with Magloire or any of his teammates for that matter. Anthony Epps was tough as nails and just a pure winner. That 1996 team probably had at least 8 or 9 players with more basketball talent than Epps. Maybe more than that. They were damn good, but they didn't become great until Epps became their starting point guard. Chuck Hayes is not making a living in the NBA right now because he has a vast array of skills. He's making it because he's one tough SOB. How many blog writers could turn a Tim Tebow post into a UK basketball lovefest? I know of at least one.

-that I never proposed to Jordan. I asked Maddie to do it. I wasn't scared and I didn't think she would say no. After all, we had been living together for a while, but I thought it would be sweet to include Maddie since it would be a change for her too. There was nothing elaborate about it. One day Jordan was sitting on the couch watching tv and I sent Maddie in there with a ring. "Jordan, will you marry Daddy?". That's all it took, and here we are today as one big happy family with a new addition. It's worked out so perfectly that I've already decided to let Aubrey propose to my next wife.

-that Billy Gillispie has checked into alcohol rehab in Houston. I mentioned Billy G and his drinking problem in the original DYK so I thought I would update it here. I really hope Billy gets his life in order and can overcome his addiction. He's taken the first step, which is supposedly the hardest one. I didn't like the things he did as UK basketball's coach, but I wish him the best.

-that I love John Gruden on Monday Night Football. It's a shame he'll probably get another coaching job soon. However, it won't be at Louisville. I wish their fans would quit dreaming. Can anybody else picture John Gruden at the Ville? In my opinion he's a little more "big time" than that. Now that I think about it, apparently Bill Parcells' interest in the UK job was legit, so I guess anything is possible.

-that I really wanna go to Big Blue Madness this year. Blake, Kendall, Bunch, and I have talked about it and I think we are gonna try and go up on Friday night before the tickets are given away on Saturday morning. It's not quite the camp out scenario we've pulled off in the past, but it will be fun if we can go get in line. If anybody's interested in joining us, let me know.

-that I'm DYKing at work again. Somebody just came in to the ER and they (the patient) think it's the dreaded swine flu. Everybody thinks they've got the swine flu. I gotta go.

Have a nice Friday!!!!!!
